Lynn Camp Update

Volunteers (2 – 4 a day) will be needed for three or four days on a short notice basis near the end of June or early July to help collect and move brook trout to Lynn Camp Prong.  The work will last all day and will be during week days.  If you are interested in helping, send a message to Charlie Chmielewski at cchm@charter.net or you can call him at 865-661-7325.  He will add you to the contact list for notification when the schedule is finalized.

The schedule for brook trout restoration work had to be changed when stream electro-shock monitoring detected quantities of rainbow trout capable of reproduction in the upper portion of Marks Creek, a small tributary of Lynn Camp near camp ground 28, and in a downstream area in the gorge.  The Park Service will re-treat these areas in the next two weeks, but the schedule will depend on the weather.  Once the treatment is complete, the brook trout collection and moving will be scheduled and volunteers notified.

The next meeting is on the fourth Thursday March the 23th, 7:00 P.M.  The meeting will be upstairs in the seminar room at the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World Hwy 66 Kodak Tn.

The next chapter meeting is Thursday August 24th at 7:00PM at the Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville.  Our two speakers this month are both fly fishermen and love the sport as well as working with wood.  One will bring his drift boat and the other his strip canoe.  Andrew Sonner deals with storm water for the City of Alcoa for his day job.  He will have a presentation showing the process he used to build his drift boat.  Chase Vandervelde teaches at Maryville High during the day and became interested in building canoes at MHS where canoes are built in a class.  With the help of a good friend he built his first canoe at home and is in the process of getting ready to build some more that will be for sale.  This should be a very interesting meeting - be sure to be there.
